                          Hosting Unreal: Return to Na Pali
========================================================================================

General:

  If you own a server and would like to host this version of RTNP then that's fine
by me. However, don't forget that the maps can be around 7-9MB, and all other
server files required will sum up to another 8MB. Therefore I recommend that you
only host this on a v225 server if you have a fast upload speed, because not many
people will wait that long to play. The next bits only concern 227 server hosters.

227 Servers:

  As some may know, 227 servers can use the web-downloading option, where the
players download all server files from a website instead of your server. For me,
download speeds can reach around 200KB/sec, and then downloading 16 MB worth of files
to play 1 map doesn't sound like a lot. Therefore I strongly recommend that if you
are planning to host a 227 server anyway, set up the web-downloading option.

Web-downloading:

  WEB-DOWNLOADING IS CASE-SENSITIVE! A file called 'marine.uax' is not the same as
'Marine.aux'! Make sure that this is always correct! I made sure the Return to Na Pali
maps wouldn't give these issues.

  There are plenty of free web-hosts out there. Plenty! Here are a few which I found
providing a very good transfer rate:
 - http://www.ismywebsite.com
 - http://www.voila.fr/

  For those with a FreeWebs account, I noticed the feature also works on FreeWebs.
Mind you, FreeWebs' transfer rate is very low, around 20KB/s for me, so only use it
if you want to practice setting up the web downloading. Make sure you put
bAllowDownloads as False when testing. bAllowDownloads=True allows the server to upload.
  To set up web-downloading, assuming you already have a web-host, open your Unreal.ini
in the System folder. Scroll down to [IpDrv.HTTPDownload] and enter your website URL
here. Let's say I use http://rolandunreal.ismywebsite.com/, and I placed my .u and .unr
files there. In my Unreal.ini it would look like this:

[IpDrv.HTTPDownload]
RedirectToURL=http://rolandunreal.ismywebsite.com/
ProxyServerHost=
ProxyServerPort=3128
UseCompression=False

Once you got this set up, it should work, go try it out. Make sure you put
bAllowDownloads to False.

Compression:

  If you're using the web-downloading system, you might have noticed that there is an
option which says "UseCompression". (Compression means reducing the file size, like
WinZip or WinRar) There are quite some tools which allow you to compress the files,
transforming a .u file into .u.uz (and .unr to .unr.uz). The tool I use for compression,
REDIRECT SERVER CHECKER, is available for download on my website. It compresses any
Unreal file, usually resulting in it being only 30% of the normal file size (so a file
of 1MB is only 300KB) which I consider plain sexy. So, instead of players downloading
a map of 9MB, they'll only download one of around 3MB, and at a transfer rate of 200KB/S
the map will be downloaded in no time! So let me put it plain and simple: A map of 9MB
can be downloaded in around 30 seconds. Also, the server will suffer zero lag!

THIS IS WHY I RECOMMEND WEB-DOWNLOADING FOR RTNP HOSTERS!

		Roland always wins... It might be because he's too cool to be true.
